Beach Dog Bans in Force

Visitors and residents at Burnham-on-Sea re reminded that the seasonal dog ban came back into force on Monday, May 1 on all beaches at Burnham on Sea between Maddocks Slade and the Yacht Club. (Beaches 1, 2 and 3).

During the dog ban period (May 1 to September 30),  it is an offence to take your dog onto the beach and dog walkers can be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £75 or face prosecution for doing so.

Sedgemoor’s dog wardens undertake patrols at the beaches and will issue fixed penalty notices to those caught with dogs on the banned beaches.  In the last few months, the Dog wardens have issued 15 Fixed Penalty Notices s for dogs on the beach (Beach 1) between the jetty and the Pavilion, where dogs are banned all year round.

To remind people of the dog bans, the dog wardens have sprayed chalk stencils at locations along the esplanade in additional to the normal signage.
