We are getting in touch to let you know about railway work taking place in Somerset this autumn – in particular a major upgrade in the Taunton area in November that has implications for commuters.
This email is aimed at enabling you and your colleagues, family and friends to plan ahead and make alternative travel arrangements where necessary.
What is happening?
To ensure the continued safe and smooth running of the railway for passengers, we will be replacing a huge railway junction to the East of Taunton (Cogload Junction).
This takes place Saturday 9 – Thursday 14 November and involves working 24/7 throughout that time to completely remove and replace enormous sections of worn track.
Alongside this renewal, we will also be completing work on Whiteball tunnel (between Taunton and Tiverton Parkway) at the same time, to keep disruption to passengers to a minimum.
As a result of these two upgrades, there will be no trains running from the following stations for the duration of the work (9 – 14 November):
As you will see from the route map below, where rail replacement buses are shown in the red section, buses replace trains on the following routes:
We have been doing an extensive programme of passenger engagement at railway stations over the past month or so, and are now reaching out to employers and other stakeholders to spread the word even further. We would be grateful for any assistance in passing this information on via your own internal and external networks.
We have produced a number of resources to assist you, and would ask employers in particular to print and display the posters and other information in communal areas in offices (e.g. kitchens/print rooms/at water coolers), to help your colleagues plan their journey to work during this period.
The key message for all is that anyone using train services in the Taunton area 9 - 14 November needs to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journeys.
For more information about the work itself, please go to www.networkrail.co.uk/somerset and keep an eye on our Twitter account where we will be posting updates: @NetworkRailWest
We hope you find this information useful – please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you’ve any queries.
Thanks and best wishes
