25 March 2020 Update
The Government has put in place restrictions on how much time we are permitted to spend outside and where we are allowed to visit.
The Town Council allotment sites are currently open and will remain so until we are advised otherwise. Travel to and from the allotments is permitted if the precautions stipulated by the Government are taken. Visiting the site constitutes your daily exercise set out by the government.
However, any plot holder who is self isolating because they live with someone who is ill, should NOT visit the allotment.
If there is a community use plot or shed on the site, then this should not be re-opened until the rules on isolation have been lifted by the Government.
We ask that all tenants visiting the site following this advice:
There will be no plot inspections until further notice and no warning or eviction letters for non-cultivation will be sent out to tenants until after the pandemic is controlled and restrictions lifted.
We would be grateful if all allotment holders will do what they can to their plots to help reduce the growth of weeds and grasses that could overwhelm the plot if you are unable to visit for an extended period.
This Council is also working under restrictions that stop us from being able to carry out certain maintenance and repairs that might be needed. We will try to rectify these issues when we can, but it might be that plot holders or Allotment Association will have to come up with short term measures in the meantime.
Like you, we very much hope this situation will be short-lived and we can return to productive and safe gardening.
